Mobile Office - Eventually I'll Hit the Road

Originally published: August 1, 2018

I’m prepping my mobile office in hopes of taking my first trip. Unfortunately, my trip is delayed because I found out the transmission on the mobile cabin is slipping. Not wanting to damage it, I decided to put it in the shop to have the transmission tended to. Yep, that’s an expensive tending, but I’d rather get it done correctly than worry about things happening while on the road. In the meanwhile, until I bring it to the shop on Monday, I get to pretend.

My Mobile Office

Yes, this is a shot of my mobile office. I’m using one of the Coleman tables as the desk.

It’s actually a pretty sweet setup. I’ve got my phone, tablet, Bose speaker for music and a notebook (not to mention water). The setup has everything I need to do what I would otherwise do inside the house.

In back of the rear seat are my cooking supplies and a portable toilet. What you don’t see in front of me is there’s a cooler. No, there’s nothing in the cooler since I’m only parked in my driveway, but a gal can pretend until she actually takes a trip.

Getting the van ready is painfully sweet. The sweet part is that I’ve actually got the van. I’ve been wanting a mobile cabin for several years. The painful part is I can’t take off. Well, not yet. As I wrote earlier there were repairs that I needed to take care of before I hit the road. The tranny issue was something I figured would come up eventually when you buy a 19-year-old van with 140,000 miles.

The prior owner took great care of it as I’ve mentioned in prior posts, but a tranny is a tranny. This van has towed motorcycles, boats and other things so I’m guessing the transmission got more wear and tear than any vehicle I’ve ever owned.

However, in reality, she traipses around in her mobile cabin, Faith, a 2005 Chevy Express Conversion van. With Faith, she’s slowly (and I mean slowly) transitioning her mind to leave the ‘safe world’ of bricks and sticks in favor of the unpredictable world of van travel.
