 Brunch at the Towne Crier CafeOriginally published: Tuesday, August 1, 2017 It’s unbelievable how many times we’ve walked right past the Towne Crier Cafe located on Main Street in Beacon, NY and never really paid attention to it. This Sunday, however, we decided to take our time, park further away from the Beacon Farmers' Market and walk down Main Street. Our goal was to have brunch, then go to the market to pick up our farm fresh eggs and greenery that we needed for the week. We initially walked right past the Towne Crier Cafe in favor of going to the Beacon Falls Cafe which is located further down Main Street. Unfortunately (or should I say, fortunately), it was crowded so we strolled back up Main Street and decided to brunch at the Towne Crier. Towne Crier Cafe - Interesting Set-UpWe entered the Cafe and walked past a mini music stage. I hardly noticed the stage because across and slightly to the left of the entrance was a beautiful painting on the wall of Ray Charles. I’m a Ray Charles fan and was impressed with the artist’s rendition of the singer/piano player. Our booth was roomy and comfortable. We were seated by a large window overlooking the sidewalk. It was a picture-perfect sunny Sunday so the window allowed me to engage in one of my pastimes, people watching. Alas, the people watching had to wait until after we put in our order, so we perused the menu and were happy to see the ingredients were locally sourced and farm-fresh. We opted for the vegetarian omelet with Swiss cheese. I also added a side of chorizo sausage, while my husband had bacon and sausage. To add to the pleasantness of the experience, we decided to have mimosas. It makes people watching all the more interesting. Tasteful Music
While observing the scenery and enjoying people watching, the musicians began to play. It was a nice duo of keyboard and guitar. Good old school jazz music quickly filled the restaurant. Let’s run this back a minute...beautiful sunny day, good old school jazz, comfortable booths and then...the mimosas came. The service was quick and friendly. I had my fingers crossed hoping the food would be good since everything else was so enjoyable. And Then Came the Food…Let me preface this by saying my husband makes the world's best omelets. We use farm fresh eggs (from the farmer’s market) along with locally grown vegetables, so my omelet standards are very high. I’ve got to say I was not disappointed! The Towne Crier Cafe served the best omelet I’ve ever had outside of my house. The omelets were top shelf. The one disappointment I had was the sausage. It had great flavor, but it was overcooked and rather dry. I suffered through it because everything else was so enjoyable.
FYI: The meal comes with potatoes and toast, but we enjoy the LCHF (low carb high fat) way of eating and opted not to have them. And, the above photo is of my husband's plate. He LOVES black pepper, so the extra black pepper is of his doing. The mimosas were not as acidic as some that I’ve tasted in the past. I don’t know if they make their own orange juice or not, but boy those mimosas were good. No, I didn’t overindulge. We only had one each. As we were leaving, I noticed to the left of the entryway was a secondary dining area. On the wall at the end of the dining area was a painting of the Rat Pack. Yes, you old-timers know who they are, Dean, Frank and Sammy (no last names required). Would I traipse back over to the Towne Crier Cafe again? You bet. I might try an evening visit when they have open mic or purchase tickets to enjoy one of the musical venues. For more info, check out their site (or call): Towne Crier Cafe

After walking past paintings of Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Pete Seeger, we were seated beneath a painting of Bob Dylan. I wish I had paid more attention to the name of the artist, but I guess I’ll have to get that info the next time I dine there (provided the paintings are still there).
In her mind, she lives in an RV and gets to travel to beautiful places far and near. However, in reality, she traipses around in her mobile cabin, Faith, a 2005 Chevy Express Conversion van. With Faith, she’s slowly (and I mean slowly) transitioning her mind to leave the ‘safe world’ of bricks and sticks in favor of the unpredictable world of van travel.
