Dining at the I-84 Diner in Fishkill, NY

After the long trip from NC (and a disappointing breakfast at The Southland Restaurant), we were weary and in need of sustenance. We stopped at the I84 Diner in Fishkill, NY. It was around 8:30 or 9:00 pm so we opted for a dinner of soup and burger. Since we’re following a ketogenic lifestyle, our soups and burgers were somewhat modified from what’s on the regular menu.

We all ordered French onion soup without the crouton (bread = carbs). My hubby and I had burgers (chili bacon burger for him and Italian burger for me) without the buns, of course. My son, who’s not following a ketogenic lifestyle had the chicken quesadilla.

Service at the I84 Diner

I’ve got to say, the service there was great. My hubby fell in love with the waitress. I just wish I remembered her name. She knew her craft! From her greeting to taking our rather odd orders, she got everything right! From the moment she walked over to our table, we knew we had a winner.

After such an impressive show of service, we were hoping the food was as good. I84 Diner didn’t let us down! I asked for a medium cooked Italian burger and it was medium. That alone was impressive. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten an overcooked burger being passed off as medium.

The grilled peppers, onions and mushrooms were delicious. The mozzarella cheese topper was perfect. I was extremely happy with my menu choice, as were my son and husband. We enjoyed our meals so much that we decided to come back and order the exact same thing. The icing on the cake would be if we got the exact same waitress.

Ha! I found the receipt. The server was Debra C (#160). Debra C...you were awesome!

I84 Diner has Clean Restrooms

Being located right off of Interstate 84, I’m sure they get a lot of weary travelers. Plenty of those travelers stop for food and restroom breaks. When I see a restroom, I believe it’s an indication of how clean or unclean the kitchen is. Having used the I84 Diner restroom, I didn’t have worries about the cleanliness of their kitchen.

Dang, in hindsight, I probably should have used the restroom at the Southlands Restaurant. Doing so might have caused me to hold off until I reached Virginia to have breakfast. Oh well, lesson learned.

Not All Diners are Alike

I’ve been to many diners in my years, and this one is one I’d be happy to dine at again. It was clean, friendly with good food. Doesn’t seem like much to ask for, but some diners miss the mark.
