We recently visited the County Fare restaurant located in the Village of Wappingers Falls, NY. What a lovely little establishment. When we first walked in it reminded me of the television show bar/restaurant Cheers, except the layout is a bit different. The bar is on the right, and there’s dining to the left and back. The brick walls, hardwood floors and chalkboards are a nice touch.
Although I did take a quick glance around the restaurant, my attention was really directed towards the outdoor dining patio. It’s a small patio with about five or six tables. The view isn’t spectacular as it overlooks streets in the Village of Wappingers Falls, but it is a pleasant dining experience nonetheless.
The Food at County Fare
Here’s where the true fun begins. The food is good. I was fortunate enough to visit when the special was a salmon, avocado, roasted red pepper, bacon sandwich served on a bun along with fries. Of course, being that I’m attempting a ketogenic way of eating, I had to ruin the server’s day. I’m a paint in the butt when it comes to ordering.
What I really wanted was their spinach salad that comes with walnuts, strawberries, goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. So, I asked f they could combine the two. I wanted the salmon, bacon and avocado on top of the spinach salad. What I ended up having was the salmon, spinach, bacon and a side of spinach salad. Apparently, the spinach salad is a complete meal on its own so combining the two would be too much. The side salad along with the salmon was perfect. It was still too much to eat so I took a doggie box home.
Hubby started his meal off with chili (it looked and smelled so good that I wish I had ordered it also). He then had a bacon cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese with a tossed salad. They cooked the burger correctly (medium). He was as happy with his meal as I was with mine.
Pictures are Worth all the Words
Rather than blabber on about the great meal at County Fare, just look at the photos. Don’t you want to get in your car and drive there now?
In addition to great meals, they also have an extensive selection of local IPA beers. Not being a beer drinker I settled for my usual Chardonnay. Hubby, well, he tried their special watermelon rum drink.
County Fare’s Website Says it All
If you check out their website, you’ll see not only the menu and beer selections, but they also list the upcoming events. In addition to upcoming events, they list weekly specials such as Monday’s all-day happy hour and Wednesday’s trivia nights.
Since we had such a nice experience there (the wait staff is friendly and attentive), we highly recommend stopping by County Fare if you’re in the area. It’s just down the block from the Grinnell Library (the 6th oldest library in NY state).
I’ve only visited County Fare twice, but I get the feeling that if I hung around there long enough, I’d find a Sam Malone, Diane Chambers, Norman, Woody, Carla, Coach and of course Cliff Clavin. Cheers!
